Welcome to Lake Norman Reflections, the newest book containing history about the Lake Norman area by respected photographer /writer team, Bill and Diana Gleasner. The Gleasners brought us the original Lake Norman book titled Lake Norman - Our Inland Sea. Published more than 20 years ago, that first edition has sold over 25,000 copies to lake lovers near and far.
The lake, to say the least, has changed, and the Gleasners wanted to capture its splendor with a brand new book, Lake Norman Reflections. Not an update . . . not a revision . . . this is a brand new hard cover coffee table book (12 X 9 horizontal format) with nearly 100 pages. Showcasing more than 150 stunning never-before-published color photographs that illustrate a lively text, this captivating book belongs in every lake dweller’s home.
The Gleasners trace the Catawba River from its headwaters high in the North Carolina Mountains to its meandering path toward the sea from Cowans Ford Dam. Readers will learn about Native Americans who lived beside the river, of the early colonial settlements and the plantation era that flourished when cotton was king. The book tells the story of the land, the struggles of a new nation, harnessing the river to make power, the growth of surrounding communities and the real estate boom that put Lake Norman on the map!
Truly a celebration of this dynamic region, Lake Norman Reflections covers the many moods of the lake, its people, traditions and culture. The Gleasners launch this saga with "The Red Barn, and the Black Dog", their quest to find the source of Lake Norman.

| The Gleasners launch this saga with "The Red Barn, and the Black Dog", their quest to find the source of Lake Norman. They explored Lake Norman State Park trails and traveled to the Catawba Indian Nation near Rock Hill to photograph master potters at work. Bill’s aerial photography presents a lofty view of the lake and its nearby communities. Photos of birds, wildlife, festivals, holiday celebrations and local heritage highlight its pages. The book concludes with a heartfelt tribute to the beauty of the lake.
Diana and Bill Gleasner arrived on Lake Norman’s shores by way of Buffalo, New York, and Kauai, Hawaii. While thawing out in the warm Hawaiian sun, they began a serious search to find a permanent home. As photojournalists who have traveled the world, they put a high premium on sense of place. Lake Norman provided the ideal answer to their quest, and we counted them as "lake neighbors" soon after.
In these pages Bill’s photographs and Diana’s text combine to tell a story which is both comprehensive and intimate. The lake has been a catalyst for dynamic regional growth as well as an elegant backdrop for lives rich in creative endeavors and warm friendships. To quote the Gleasners: "This, our 31st book, is by far the most satisfying in a lifetime of creative efforts. To see the book grow and develop before our eyes, to be able to pay tribute to our favorite place on Earth, to share our vision of Lake Norman with friends, neighbors, visitors and newcomers, gives us enormous satisfaction. This, after all, is our home, the place where our souls find safe harbor."
